Scenario ======== You're the only airplane inbound and ATC has cut you loose to join the approach as you see fit. However, the more you review the approach chart the more complex it becomes. The simplest options will be the toughest to execute given the winds and descent, but the easier options might not be legit. 5 December 2023 1830 1H0 Pilot Lounge From members at stlaviationmeetup.org Mon Dec 18 19:28:44 2023 From: members at stlaviationmeetup.org (St. Louis Aviation Meetup Members List) Date: Mon, 18 Dec 2023 13:28:44 -0600 (CST) Subject: [Members] 19 December 2023 Message-ID: QotM ==== Pilots are often taught to not lean the mixture of a normally aspirated engine below 3,000 feet. When departing an airport when the density altitude is 5,000 feet, should we wait until reaching 3,000 AGL before leaning the engine? Scenario ======== Your mission is ferrying the club airplane 350 miles to a paint shop. If its not there by tomorrow morning, your next chance to get in the queue for painting will be months from now. Is high wind and turbulence enough to scrub this flight, or is there a safe way to make it happen? 19 December 2023 1H0 Pilot Lounge 1830 CST From members at stlaviationmeetup.org Sun Dec 31 16:19:28 2023 From: members at stlaviationmeetup.org (St. Louis Aviation Meetup Members List) Date: Sun, 31 Dec 2023 10:19:28 -0600 (CST) Subject: [Members] 2 January 2024 Message-ID: QotM ==== According to the following METAR, what is the temperature-dewpoint spread at GON? What happens when a pressing situation puts your instincts at odds with your clearance, especially when ATC doesnt seem the least bit concerned? Is it OK to act first and tell ATC later, or do you need permission to deviate? 2 January 1830 1H0 Pilot Lounge
