You're flying an aircraft with a carbureted engine and have just completed
a rather long taxi for departure. The outside air temperature is about 70
degrees F, and the humidity is high. As part of your runup, you
momentarily turn the carb heat on, and noticing a reasonable drop in RPM,
you turn it back off again. Should you be comfortable that the carb heat
check is satisfactory? What other hazard might still exist, and how would
you check for it?
Scenario
========
Low clouds, small runway, slick airplane - this sounds like an NTSB report
waiting to happen. Then again, you have the skill, the fuel, and the time
to make a well-executed attempt with no pressure to make it work out. And
you have several backup choices. Stick with the plan or bail out now?
